TAG Heuer CARRERA is the first chronograph-type watch for race car drivers, created in 1963 by Jack Heuer and inspired by one of the most exhausting open-road endurance races in the world – “Carrera Panamericana Mexico Road Race”. Long time fan and, at the same time, participant in the sport in question, Heuer knew exactly what was needed for such a watch: high display visibility, and water and shock resistance that would allow it to withstand the toughest of races.

Half a century after the CARRERA model was created, TAG Heuer comes with the latest creations in car racing watches: the TAG Heuer CARRERA Calibre 16 Day Date 41mm, with a general aspect reminding of a classic race car’s dashboard and the TAG Heuer CARRERA Calibre 36 Racing Chronograph Flyback 43mm, named for its 36,000 beats per hour frequency.

If TAG Heuer has auto racing enthusiasts in mind with their latest creations, Concord, part of the Movado group, is targeting Thoroughbred horse racing lovers, with their new model, the Saratoga Chronograph 2013.

Officine Panerai, born in 1860, in Florence, Italy, is the brand associated with scuba-diving, supplying wrist watches to the Italian Navy since 1916. The Radiomir model was created for deep sea diving, using radium in order to confer the dial an intense, lasting luminosity. Since radium is radioactive, however, the watches were hazardous to the wearers’ health.  Thus, in 1949, the Luminor model was issued, using a much less radioactive, hence less harmful, substance.

In 1993, Officine Panerai was launching their first collection of watches aimed at the general public – Luminor, Marina Luminor and Nostrum Mare. Drawing their inspiration from the historic models created during the Second World War, they instantly became sought-after collector pieces. The average price of the Officine Panerai watches commercially available in Romania ranges from 3,900 euro to 47,000 euro.
