Fazıl Say
The latest CD by the Turkish pianist Fazıl Say, dedicated entirely to Beethoven (Piano Concerto No. 3, Sonata No. 14 “of the Moon” and Sonata No. 32), was greeted with equal enthusiasm by both fans and music lovers who do not always appreciate the completely unorthodox manner of the pianist’s violent interpretation, with the singer’s violent repertoires apparently devoid of virtuosity. The recital program of the upcoming edition of the “George Enescu” Festival includes the same two Beethoven sonatas.
Joyce DiDonato
The bel¬canto recital, entitled Stella di Napoli, by mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato is also a musical event. In the ten arias, three of which are absolute premieres, they managed, with an astonishing vocal technique and an indomitable temperament, to perform. If you missed the famous artist's recordings of baroque music, this CD is an inspired first step to discover arias by composers little known in our country (Pacini, Carafa, Valentini) or by the famous Rossini, Donizetti or Bellini. Conductor Riccardo Minasi will be presented at the next edition of the "George Enescu" Festival.
Martha Argerich and Daniel Barenboim
A long-awaited CD includes the recording of a two-piano recital featuring two of the most important pianists of the last 50 years: Martha Argerich and Daniel Barenboim. The live performance in Berlin, from April 2014, includes Mozart's Sonata for Two Pianos in D major, Schubert's Variations on an Original Theme and Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. Barenboim convinced Argerich to learn this score, which Stravinsky and Debussy played in the first (private) audition. Certainly one of the most anticipated musical events of the year.
